Romania's economy is likely to increase by 0.6% in January to March compared to the previous quarter, according to estimations of the country’s association of financial and banking analysts AAFBR.

In annual terms, the first quarter economic growth is estimated at 0.2%, AAFBR said in a statement Thursday.

For the whole of 2011, analysts forecast a growth of 1.5%, up from an increase of 1.2% previously envisaged.

In the fourth quarter of 2010, the economy grew by 0.1% in seasonally adjusted terms compared with the previous three months, after two consecutive quarters of decline.

However, the fourth-quarter gross domestic product fell 0.5% from the same period of 2009.

The Romanian statistics institute is due to release quarterly economic growth data on April 13.
