Nearly 28,800 Companies Disbanded in Jan-Apr

The number of companies deleted from the Trade Registry in January-April grew 4.9% on the year, to 28,787.

The largest number of deletions were in Bucharest - 4,309 companies (2.75% fewer than in the same period last year), followed by counties Cluj - 1,223 (-9.94%), Iasi - 1,171 (-1.18%), and Timis - 1,159 (+24.62%).

On the other hand, the fewest company deletions were in counties Ialomita - 197 (+19.39%), Covasna - 205 (-16,67%), and Calarasi - 239 (-19.26%).

By fields of activity, the largest number of disbanded companies operated in wholesale and retail.

 

Ruling Party Leader Seeks to Postpone Foreign Intelligence Chief Appointment

Social Democratic Party leader Liviu Dragnea seeks to postpone the appointment of a new chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service fearing social democrat Gabriel Vlase, nominated by the head of state, could polarize power within the party.

On the other hand, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, leader of the junior coalition party ALDE, said he was in favor of Vlase's nomination.

Dragnea postponed a Parliament vote for Vlase's appointment as head of the Foreign Intelligence Service. The vote was initially supposed to take place Tuesday.

 

Ousted Liberal Senator Daniel Zamfir Joins ALDE

Senator Daniel Zamfir, ousted from the Liberal Party at the end of March, joined the ruling coalition junior member ALDE, led by Calin Popescu-Tariceanu.

Zamfir said Saturday in an open letter the liberal Party was headed in a wrong direction.

Zamfir is the initiator of the debt discharge law.
