Leu’s Exchange Rate Firms To New 13-Month High At 4.0735 Vs Euro

Romania’s leu continued to advance against the euro in mid trade Tuesday and the central bank’s reference strengthened 0.2% to 4.0735 units, reaching a fresh 13-month high.

Romania's leu continued to advance against the euro in mid trade Tuesday and the central bank's reference strengthened 0.2% to 4.0735 units, reaching a fresh 13-month high.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative won nearly 0.6% on the day to 2.7862 units. It is the strongest rate since December 2008.

The leu opened flat at 4.079/4.08 per euro and further gained ground, amid a positive sentiment in the region.

At around GMT1000, the leu traded at 4.0735/4.075 per euro, after hitting an early high of 7.015 per euro.

On the money market, overnight rates were at 5.6%-6.1% a year, from 5.9%-6.4% a year in the previous session.
