Leu Closes Higher Vs Euro, Attuned To Region

Romania’s leu strengthened against the euro Tuesday, tracking the currencies in the region, and closed 0.12% higher on the day at 4.073/4.075 units.

Romania's leu strengthened against the euro Tuesday, tracking the currencies in the region, and closed 0.12% higher on the day at 4.073/4.075 units.

In the previous session, the leu closed at 4.078/4.08 per euro.

Elsewhere in the region Monday afternoon, the leu's peers were gaining around 0.2% versus the euro.

The leu opened flat against the euro and further gained ground, hitting the day's high at 4.0715 per euro.

The Romanian central bank set the leu's reference at 4.0735 to the euro, the strongest rate in 13 months.

The leu's indicative appreciated against the US dollar as well and traded at 2.7862 units, the strongest level since December 2008.

On the money market, overnight rates were at 5.6%-6.1% a year, from 5.9%-6.4% a year in the previous session.
