Leu Closes Up Vs Euro, Attuned To Region

Romania’s leu recovered early losses against the euro in late trade Tuesday, tracking the currencies in the region, and closed stronger on the day at 4.0865/4.088 units.

Romania's leu recovered early losses against the euro in late trade Tuesday, tracking the currencies in the region, and closed stronger on the day at 4.0865/4.088 units.

Monday, the leu closed at 4.09/4.092 per euro.

Elsewhere in the region Tuesday afternoon, the Polish zloty was trading 0.4% higher versus the euro, while the Hungary's forint was up 0.7%.

The national currency opened up at 4.087/4.089 per euro, but further lost ground, as investors took profits. It hit an early low at 4.094 per euro before reversing trend.

Romania's central bank set the leu's reference at 4.091 to the euro, slightly weaker from 4.0869 to the euro Monday.

On the money market, overnight rates were flat at 2.2%-2.7% a year.
