Romania’s leu edged lower against the euro in mid trade Thursday and the central bank’s reference weakened to 4.0906 units, from 4.0858 units.

Against the US dollar, the leu gained 0.87% on the day at 2.7942 units, a fresh high since December 2009.

The leu opened flat at 4.087/4.089 per euro and further lost ground, hitting an early low of 4.095 per euro.

At around GMT1000, the leu traded at 4.09/4.0912 per euro.

On the money market, overnight rates nudged down to 2.3%-2.8% a year, from 2.4%-2.9% a year Wednesday.
