Leu Exchange Rate Hits New 13-Mo High At 4.0815 Vs Euro

Romania’s leu extended early gains versus the euro in mid trade Friday and the central bank’s reference strengthened 0.2% on the day to 4.0815 units, hitting a fresh 13-month high.

Romania's leu extended early gains versus the euro in mid trade Friday and the central bank's reference strengthened 0.2% on the day to 4.0815 units, hitting a fresh 13-month high.

A stronger rate, of 4.0729 per euro, was recorded on 30 March 2010.

However, the leu's indicative lost 0.3% against the US dollar, reaching 2.8026 units.

The leu opened up at 4.083/4.085 per euro, from 4.087/4.089 per euro at Thursday's closing and further gained ground, amid a quiet market. It hit an early high at 4.078 per euro and traded in narrow ranges until mid-session.

On the money market, overnight rates rose to 5.9%-6.4% a year, from 2.3%-2.8% a year Thursday.
