Leu Falls Vs Euro, Attuned To Region

Romania’s leu weakened against the euro Wednesday, mirroring the currencies in the region, and closed at 4.132/4.135 units, from 4.121/4.123 units in the previous session.

Elsewhere in the region, the leu's peers were losing around 0.5% on average versus the European common currency.

The leu opened at 4.123/4.125 per euro and gained modestly in early trade, pushed by euro sales. It later lost ground, hitting the day's low at 4.136 per euro toward closing.

Romanian central bank set the leu's reference at 4.129 to the euro, slightly weaker on the day.

On the money market, overnight rates fell to 3.8%-4.3% a year, from 4%-4.5% a year Wednesday.
