Leu Loses Gains Vs Euro, Exch Rate At 4.076

Romania’s leu lost early gains versus the euro in mid trade Thursday, as investors took profits, while the central bank’s reference strengthened slightly to 4.076 units, from 4.0767 units a day earlier.

Romania's leu lost early gains versus the euro in mid trade Thursday, as investors took profits, while the central bank's reference strengthened slightly to 4.076 units, from 4.0767 units a day earlier.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative gained 1.2% on the day at 2.7449 units, a new record high since December 2008.

The leu opened slightly up at 4.067/4.07 per euro, from 4.068/4.095 per euro at Wednesday's closing, and further gained ground, amid a positive sentiment in the region.

It touched an early high at 4.0665 to the euro, but later changed trend. At around GMT1000, the leu traded at 4.075/4.0765 to the euro.

On the money market, overnight rates rose slightly to 5.3%-5.8% a year, from 5.2%-5.2% a year Wednesday.
