Leu Opens Flat Vs Euro, In Line With Peers

The Romanian leu opened flat against the euro Thursday, on a quiet market, while other currencies in the region were seeing similar evolution.

The Romanian leu opened flat against the euro Thursday, on a quiet market, while other currencies in the region were seeing similar evolution.

The leu opened at 4.087/4.089 to the euro, insignificantly stronger than 4.088/4.09 at closing the day before.

Within the first hour of trading, the leu fluctuated only slightly and, at around GMT0715, it was trading at 4.0888/4.0899 against the euro.

The Romanian central bank set Wednesday the leu's reference at 4.0858 per euro, the strongest rate since March 2010.

On the money market Thursday morning, overnight rates stayed at 2.42%-2.92% a year.
