Leu Opens Stronger Vs Euro, Peers Rise Timidly

The Romanian leu opened Wednesday slightly stronger against the euro, amid quiet trading, while other currencies in the region were also gaining inches versus the European coin.

The leu opened at 4.108/4.111 against the euro, slightly stronger than 4.11/4.112 at closing the day before.

Within the first hour of trading, the leu to euro ratio registered some insignificant oscillation and, at around GMT0715, the leu was trading at 4.1075/4.109 to the euro.

The central bank set Thursday the leu's reference at 4.1051 to the euro, little changed on the day.

On the money market, overnight rates stayed at 2.7%-3.2% a year.
