Leu Rises Vs Euro In Late Trade, On Low Volumes

The Romanian leu stayed on a positive trend in the second half of Friday session, on reduced transferred volumes, and it strengthened from the previous day.

The leu closed at 4.423 to the euro, from 4.427 to the euro Thursday evening.

It had opened even weaker today, falling to an early low of 4.44 units, before recouping the lost ground by mid-day. In the second half of the session, the leu reached the day’s high at 4.422 to the euro,

The Hungarian forint was flat against the European currency, while the Polish zloty was losing 0.3%.

The Romanian central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4242 per euro, slightly weaker than 4.4208 per euro Thursday.

On the money market Friday morning, overnight rates rose to 1.9%-2.3% a year, from 1.5%-2% in the previous session.
