Leu Slightly Up Vs Euro In Early Trade

Romania’s leu advanced modestly against the euro in early trade Thursday, tracking its peers in the region, after the US Federal Reserve said it would keep interest rates close to zero levels and estimated economic recovery will continue.

Romania's leu advanced modestly against the euro in early trade Thursday, tracking its peers in the region, after the US Federal Reserve said it would keep interest rates close to zero levels and estimated economic recovery will continue.

The leu opened slightly up at 4.067/4.07 per euro, from 4.068/4.095 per euro at Wednesday's closing.

At around GMT0810, the leu traded at 4.0665/4.0685 per euro.

Romanian central bank set the leu's reference at 4.0767 per euro Wednesday, slightly weaker on the day.

Against the US dollar, the leu's indicative won nearly 0.3% at 2.7788 units, a fresh high since December 2008.

On the money market Thursday morning, overnight rates were flat at 5.2%-5.7% a year.
