The Romanian leu opened Monday near levels seen at closing in the previous session, on a quiet market, while other currencies in the region were also holding their ground versus the euro.

The Romanian leu opened Monday near levels seen at closing in the previous session, on a quiet market, while other currencies in the region were also holding their ground versus the euro.

The leu opened at around 4.09 versus the euro, compared to 4.094/4.0955 at closing Friday.

Within the first hour, the leu hit a low of 4.093 against the euro, but returned to 4.09/4.092 against the euro at around GMT0730.

The central bank's reference strengthened Friday to 4.0966 per euro, from 4.1021 per euro in the previous session.

On the money market Monday morning, overnight rates were at 2.3%-2.8% per year.
