Romanian Leu Opens Flat Vs Euro, Peers See Minor Shifts

The Romanian leu opened Wednesday almost flat against the euro, while other currencies in the region were also registering some insignificant oscillation.

Shares traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange opened Wednesday with a slight increase, while bourse operator BVB (BVB.RO) was the top traded issuer within the first hour.

The leu opened at 4.109/4.111 to the euro, compared to 4.108/4.1095 at closing the day before.

Within the first hour of trading, the leu hovered around the 4.11 marker against the European coin.

Romania's central bank set Tuesday the leu's reference rate at 4.1152 per euro, slightly weaker on the day.

On the money market Wednesday morning, overnight rates were down to 2.5%-3% a year from 2.8%-3.3% a year Tuesday.
