Romanian Shares Close Down, Amid Dull Trading

The Bucharest bourse closed Monday in the red, on low traded volumes, while the bulk of activity focused on investment fund Fondul Proprietatea (FP.RO), oil company OMV Petrom (SNP.RO) and the five regional investment funds, or SIFs.

Proprietatea's shares closed at 0.606 lei (EUR1=RON4.1084), down 0.49% on the day, on a traded value of RON10.25 million, almost half of today's overall traded value on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.

Petrom shares fell 2.33%, to RON0.4395. Petrom was today's second-top traded issuer, subject to transactions worth a total RON2.11 million.

The Bucharest Stock Exchange's composite index BET-C dropped 1.22% on the day, to 3,584.13, while the blue-chip index BET fell 1.2%, to 5,995.81.

BET-FI, the index tracking the Proprietatea fund and the SIFs, declined 0.73%, to 26,965.8. SIF Oltenia (SIF5.RO) fell 1.19% on the day, to RON1.656, while SIF Moldova (SIF2.RO) shares closed at RON1.471, down 1.28% on the day.

Wider blue-chip tracker BET-XT, which also includes the SIFs, closed at 563.51, down 1.08% on the day, while energy companies index BET-NG fell 1.31%, to 838.84.

Trades unfolded Monday on the Bucharest Stock Exchange amounted to RON21.66 million, slightly more than half of the RON38.89 million traded value seen Friday.

Other popular stock in Monday's sluggish trading included lender BRD-Groupe Societe Generale (BRD.RO), down 1.37% to RON15.09, and state-owned gas transporter Transgaz (TGN.RO), down 0.26% to RON268.9.
