Authorities Invite Hotel Chains To Build Unit Near Ford Plant

05.20.2011 By Bostan Radu

Authorities in Dolj county, southern Romania, have asked major hotel chains to open a hotel in Craiova, after Ford, owner of the local car factory, complained about the lack of a business hotel to accommodate the company's partners.

Such a hotel is also needed given that Deveselu, a locality 50 km from Craiova, will be host to elements of the United States' missile defense system, said Dolj county council president Ion Prioteasa on Friday.

Prioteasa has written to hotel chains such as Hilton, Ramada, Radisson and Golden Tulip. He has also asked local tourism agencies to present Ford with leisure offers for the company's foreign employees.

In March, Ford announced it had invested EUR350 million so far in its plant in Craiova, out of the EUR675 million it pledged to invest when it bought the plant in 2007.
