Dacia Car Registrations In EU Fall 3.7% In 1Q, To 62,819 Units

Romanian carmaker Dacia is ranked 17th in the European Union regarding the number of new car registrations in the first quarter of the year, which dropped 3.7% compared to the same interval in 2010, to 62,819 units, according to data by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

Dacia registrations account for 1.8% of total car registrations in the European Union, which hit 3,583,185 in the first three months of 2011.

German car brand Volkswagen is market leader with 413,842 registrations in the first quarter of the year and is followed by Ford (295,622 units) and Renault (294,812 units).

German group Volkswagen is ranked first in the EU with a 5.6% increase in registrations, to 782,349 units. It is followed by French group PSA Peugeot Citroen (-5.4%, 482,527 units) and Renault (-7.4%, 357,631 units).

Dacia car registrations on the EU market decreased by 16.6% in March compared to the same month in 2010, to 25,667 cars.

Romania ranks 21st by the number of new car registrations in the first quarter of the year, up 9.8%, outranking Hungary and Luxemburg.

Germany is leader among EU countries with 670,410 car registrations and is followed by Italy (668,021 new registrations) and the UK (611,548 units).
