Dacia Worldwide Sales Up 2% In 1Q, To 81,600 Cars

Sales of Romanian Dacia cars worldwide increased by 2% in the first quarter of 2011, to 81,600 units from 79,850 units in the same period last year, as the decline of the Logan and Sandero models was offset by solid sales of the Duster SUV, French group Renault announced.

Dacia's sales on the light commercial vehicles segment decreased by 13% to 5,000 units, from 5,640 last year.

Sandero sales halved in the first three months, dropping to 25,400 units from 50,200 last year, while Logan sales declined b 44%, to 16,440 from 29,450.

The Duster model, launched in March last year, sold 39,770 units in the first three months of 2011.

In March, Dacia sales dropped 12% on the month, to 32,000 units from 36,300 last year. On the light commercial vehicles segment, sales declined 4%, to 2040 units from 2125.

Last year, Dacia sales grew 12%, to 348,723 units, from 311,426 the year before. France was the Renault group's largest market, with 743,509 units sold last year, followed by Germany (171,482) and Brazil (160,303).
