Romania, A Country Crossed By Mountains, Has Less Than 2km Of Road Tunnels

Romania currently has nine road tunnels, with a cumulated length of 1.6 km, although it is crossed by mountains, which would justify more such tunnels. Hungary, a largely low-lying country, has twice as many km of road tunnels. In the past 20 years, Romania has built one single road tunnel, the one in Cheile Bicazului canyon, which is just over 150 meters long. But the first highway tunnel is set to be completed in 2013, between Orastie and Sibiu.
