Romania Adds Private Company To IMF Letter Of Intent By Mistake

05.17.2011 By Florentina Dragu

Dalkia Romania, a unit of French utility Veolia Environment, was included by mistake on a list of money-losing public companies that require international monitoring.

"The shareholders in Paris were shocked to find out in the media that the letter of intent between the Romanian government and the International Monetary Fund also mentions Dalkia Romania as one of the state-run companies whose losses would be considered when calculating the consolidated budget deficit," sources with the Romanian government told MEDIAFAX.

They said the government corrected the error only after the French company called and complained.

Contacted by MEDIAFAX, Dalkia officials declined to comment.
