Sorana Georgia, 46, was named chief executive officer of Billa supermarket network, part of Germany’s Rewe, becoming thus the first Romanian woman to run the operations of a top ten food retailer on the local market.

With a 14-year experience in retail, Georgia replaces Bulgarian Emil Stefanov at the helm of the 55-supermarket network with EUR290 million in turnover last year, according to Billa Romania information. She is also the first Romanian CEO of the Billa network.

Sorana Georgia has a professional track record "marked" by retail, as during the 14 years spent in this field she worked for such companies as Metro Cash&Carry Romania, Real Hypermarket Romania, Spar and now Billa, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The last position she filled before coming to Billa was that of country manager for Marionnaud perfume shops (former Ina Center and Privilege).
