Tire producer Pirelli Tyres Romania, a unit of Italian tire maker Pirelli, registered sales revenue of 1.67 billion lei (EUR376.2 million) in 2014, up 6% from RON1.58 billion a year before.

The company’s net profit rose over threefold to RON87.2 million (nearly EUR20 million) last year, compared with RON27 million in 2013.

At the end of 2014, the company had 2,282 employees, 6% higher on the year, according to Trade Registry data.

Pirelli Tyres Romania previously announced it would invest EUR105 million in its plant of Slatina in the 2013-2017 period, a sum to which the Romanian government contributed EUR35 million.

The investments are aimed at boosting the production capacity from 10 million tires at the end of 2015 to 13 million in 2017, so that the production unit of Romania should become the group’s largest.

Pirelli group will be bought by state-owned Chinese company China National Chemical, in a transaction worth approximately EUR7.1 billion.

Pirelli also owns in Romania a diesel engine filter factory in Bumbesti Jiu, Gorj county, after it sold its tire factory in Slatina last year.
