German group HeidelbergCement posted a 5% year-on-year decline in its first quarter Romanian sales, mainly because of the prolonged winter and the lack of large infrastructure projects, Monday said Mihai Rohan, board president of Carpatcement Holding, the group's Romanian operations cluster.

"The first half of this year is not like the first half of 2010, because of the long winter and prolonged cold," Rohan said.

He said the company's sales could stagnate or decrease by 2%-3% in 2011 compared with the previous year.

HeidelbergCement is one of the world's largest construction materials makers. In Romania, the group holds the companies Carpatcement, Carpat Beton and Carpat Agregate, reunited under Carpatcement Holding.
