France's Bricostore and Germany's Praktiker DIY networks, which opened the first large constructions and home improvement stores almost ten years ago, reached a cumulated market share of 34.4% in 2010, down from 62.7% in 2007, according to a ZF analysis.

In 2007, the DIY market taken into account in ZF's analysis stood at EUR700 million, while in 2010 it had neared EUR1 billion.

The analysis did not include building materials distribution (Arabesque and Ambient) or the small networks operating in various parts of the country.

Bricostore and Praktiker have been in recent years aggressively "attacked" by the new entrants on the market, such as BauMax, Hornbach and OBI, which reached overall market share of around 27% during the same interval, starting from an 8.7% level.

Moreover, Dedeman domestic network, the new leader of the market, also widened its share by around 10 percentage points in the 2007-2010 period, to 37%, amid record sales for this market, of EUR360 million last year.
