Sergey Slipchenko, the Russian executive that has run Philip Morris Romania cigarette producer over the past six months, says the Otopeni plant has already started exporting Marlboro cigarettes to Japan, a challenging market, with a legislation with a big focus on consumer confidence.

The decision to export cigarettes to Japan came as a result of disasters that have hit Japan since the start of the year and that have led to the temporary shutdown of some production facilities in this country.

"We have already started exporting cigarettes manufactured in Romania to Japan, an unbeatable market when it comes to consumer confidence, as it regulates consumers' right to return products and getting a refund if noticing the slightest problem. Production is vital, and the fact that Romania has been chosen for the temporary production of cigarettes for Japan is a sign of quality and conveys security to domestic production," said Slipchenko during his first public appearance in the position of the managing director of Philip Morris Romania and Bulgaria.
