Vodafone Romania Revenue Falls 9.3% In Fiscal Year ’10-’11, To EUR0.8B

Revenues of mobile operator Vodafone Romania decreased by 9.3% in the fiscal year ended March 31, to EUR835.6 million, and its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell 22.8%, to EUR305.6 million.

Vodafone Romania's revenues from services dropped 10.6%, to EUR797.2 million, the company said in a press release Tuesday.

According to the press release, Vodafone Romania's operating profit was impacted after the mobile operator was fined over EUR28 million by the Competition Council.

Early this year, the Competition Council fined mobile operators Orange Romania and Vodafone Romania EUR63 million for abuse of dominant position.

Orange Romania was fined over EUR34 million and Vodafone over EUR28 million, which represented about 3% of the two operators' 2010 turnover.

Vodafone Romania's number of clients decreased by 533,000 in the 2010-2011 fiscal year, to 9,196,742 clients.

Of the total number of clients, 63% use prepaid services and 37% are subscribers.

The average revenue per user (ARPU) from mobile services decreased to EUR6.1 from EUR6.5.
