Romania March Private Lending Falls 1.9% On Month To RON204B

Romanian private lending fell 1.9% in real terms to 203.9 billion lei (EUR50.05 billion) in March from a month earlier, and was down 5.3% on the year, central bank data showed Wednesday.

Romanian private lending fell 1.9% in real terms to 203.9 billion lei (EUR50.05 billion) in March from a month earlier, and was down 5.3% on the year, central bank data showed Wednesday.

Private loans in Romanian lei declined 0.5% on the month in March, while foreign currency loans decreased by 2.1% when expressed in lei. When expressed in euros, hard currency loans inched up 0.3% in March from a month earlier.

Compared with March 2010, loans in Romanian lei fell 9.7% in March, whereas hard currency loans rose 5.4% when expressed in lei and 4.9% when expressed in euros.

Deposits of non-government resident customers declined 0.5% on the month to RON171.4 billion.

End-March, government credit was at RON61.48 billion, up 12.2% in real terms from the year earlier month. (EUR1=RON4.0735)
