Romanian April Industrial New Orders Down 11.6% On Month

Romanian industrial new orders fell 11.6% on the month in April, on two-digit declines in most sectors, the statistics institute INS said Friday.

New orders in the durable goods sector were down 23.5% in April from a month earlier, while orders in the consumer and capital goods sectors decreased by 16.2% and 15.3%, respectively. Demand for intermediate goods declined 4.6% on the month.

In annual terms, Romanian industrial new orders decreased 5.5% in April, due to a 13.7% decline in the capital goods sector, the data showed.

New orders for consumer goods rose 8.8% on the year in April, while orders in the durable and intermediate goods sector were up 7.1% and 0.7% on the year, respectively.

In the first four months of 2012, Romanian industrial orders inched down 0.8% on the year, due to falling demand for capital and intermediate goods.
