Romanian Industrial New Orders Up 13% On Month In May

Romanian industrial new orders rose 12.9% on the month in May, fueled by two-digit growth in most sectors, the statistics institute INS said Friday.

New orders in the durable goods sector were up 28.9% in May from a month earlier, while orders in the capital and consumer goods sectors increased by 16.8% and 14.9%, respectively. Demand for intermediate goods advanced 7.1% on the month.

In annual terms, Romanian industrial new orders rose 3.7% in May, on higher demand in most sectors, the data showed.

New orders for durable goods rose 29.8% on the year in May, while orders in the consumer and intermediate goods sectors were up 8.6% and 7.6% on the year, respectively.

Demand for capital goods inched down 1.6% in May from the same month of 2011.

In January through May, Romanian industrial orders edged up 0.3% on the year, again supported by higher demand in most sectors.
