Romanian industrial sales fell 3.4% in January from a month earlier, largely due to lower demand in the manufacturing industry, the country’s statistics institute INS said Monday.

Manufacturing sales decreased 3.6% on the month in January, but mining sales were up 0.5%, the data showed.

By sector, consumer goods sales fell 13.2% month-on-month, while sales of energy and durable goods declined 9.8% and 4.7%, respectively. On the other hand, sales of capital goods rose 2.5% from a month earlier, while intermediate goods sales increased by 1.2%.

On an annual basis, industrial sales increased 5.2% in January, fueled by a 5.6% growth in manufacturing. Sales in the mining industry declined 2.9% on the year, the data showed.
