Romanian President Traian Basescu informed the Chamber of Deputies in a letter Monday that he approved the request of the USA to use the Mihail Kogalniceanu airport and Constanta harbor in southeastern Romania as transit points for the transport of troops and arms to and from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The U.S. will also be allowed to temporarily station four KC-135 refueling planes and four C17 transport planes on the Mihail Kogalniceanu airport.

The Romanian Defense Ministry and U.S. officials will sign a technical agreement setting transit conditions.

Basescu said last week the country's highest defense body, CSAT, allowed the USA to use the Mihail Kogalniceanu airport and Constanta harbor for the transport of troops and arms to and from the two Asian countries.
