Romanian state-owned companies will be restructured according to cost-benefit analyses, not a specific number of employees to be laid off, said acting Labor Minister Emil Boc on Friday, after a meeting with the heads of local labor inspectorates.

Romanian state-owned companies will be restructured according to cost-benefit analyses, not a specific number of employees to be laid off, said acting Labor Minister Emil Boc on Friday, after a meeting with the heads of local labor inspectorates.

Boc said Romania's autonomous administrations and state-owned companies are inefficient and waste public money. Plans for their restructuring must be completed by the end of July.

Earlier Friday, National Union Bloc (BNS) president Dumitru Costin said, after a meeting with the International Monetary Fund delegation, that the fund's officials have stated the main topic on the agenda of their talks with the Government will be the restructuring of state-owned companies.

Costin said the labor unions have not yet received a detailed plan for the restructuring of the 18 state-owned companies, but at least an estimated 30,000 people across several fields will be made redundant.
