Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc, recently appointed interim labor minister, Tuesday said he will sign the norms for the application of the law regulating day labor on Friday.

The day labor law, which was published in the Official Journal on April 20, will enter force on May 2.

The normative acts states day laborers will pay a 16% income tax. Employers are not allowed to hire teenagers under 16 as day laborers and must pay the money they owe to workers at the end of the day.

According to the act, a workday cannot exceed 12 hours (six hours in the case of teenage workers).

On Tuesday, Boc met with Interior Minister Traian Igas and Work Inspection representatives for talks on a program aimed to fight the black labor market. He said the country's new labor legislation sets harsher punishments for illegal work and advised employers who hire illegal workers to sign labor contracts.
