Footballer Cristian Chivu Withdraws From National Team

Romanian national football team captain Cristian Chivu has announced his withdrawal form the team in a letter addressed to the Romanian Football Federation.

Chivu will not play in the home match against Bosnia-Herzegovina on June 3, as his decision takes effect immediately.

Chivu made his debut as national team footballer in 1999, when Romania drew 2-2 in a friendly match with Cyprus. He played his last match for Romania on November 17, 2010 against Italy (1-1) in Klagenfurt.

Chivu played 75 matches for the national team and scored three goals. He participated in the 2000 and 2008 European Championships.

The Romanian footballer currently plays for FC Internazionale Milano (Italy).
