05.11.2011 By Ioana Tudor

The Romanian Senate on Wednesday adopted a bill whereby foreigners who study in Romania may file requests to prolong their stay to work after finishing their studies, without a long-stay visa being required.

The bill, which amends several normative acts regarding the status of foreigners in Romania, was adopted in the format put forward by the Government.

According to the bill, foreigners who study in Romania and want to prolong their stay to work must sign a full-time work contract in the field in which they have been trained.

The draft law's explanatory note reads the new measures aim to bring the local legislation in line with the provisions of the Community Code on Visas.

The Chamber of Deputies has the final say on this bill.
