INS: Romania's Population Decreased By 7,775 People In March

Romania's population decreased by 7,775 people in March from the earlier month, according to data released Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

In March 2011, Romania reported 15,801 babies born alive, up 884 compared to the previous month, and 23,576 deceased, up 1,873 compared to February, the INS said. Data show that 166 infants died in March.

According to INS, the negative natural growth, namely, the surplus of deceased compared to the surplus of newborns, triggered a decrease in population by 7,775 people in March. In February, Romania's population decreased by 6,786 people.

Compared to March 2010, the number of babies born alive was down 1,984 in March this year and the number of deceased was up 847.

Romania reported 3,219 marriages in March 2011, down 1,174 compared to February, and 3,369 divorces, up 58 compared to the previous month.

In March 2011, the number of marriages was lower by 420 compared to the same interval in 2010, while the number of divorces was down 274.

In March 2010, Romania's population decreased by 4,944.
