Romanian prison workers on Tuesday said they will stage protests if the Constitutional Court rejects unconstitutionality claims regarding the Social Dialog Code, which has been pushed through the Parliament through a vote of confidence.

Unionists said they will notify the International Labor Organization and the European Court of Human Rights regarding a provision of the law, which eliminates the right to strike of public servants with special status, who work in penitentiary administration.

The National Union Bloc challenged the normative act at the Constitutional Court, arguing that penitentiary workers' right to strike is guaranteed by an organic law.

Last week, opposition social democrats and liberals challenged the constitutionality of the Social Dialog Code. The Court will discuss the claim on May 4.

Last Monday, the Government sought a vote of confidence in Parliament to pass the bill into legislation.
