Senators Want 1% Of GDP Assigned To Research

05.25.2011 By Gavrila Oana

Romanian senators have proposed the Government allot 1% of the gross domestic product each year to promote, support, develop and stimulate research and development activities of national interest.

The Senate on Wednesday adopted an amendment to a bill regulating the country's research sector.

The amended bill stated the Government ensures financing for the research sector but didn't specify how much the sector should get.

The amended bill was approved 84 to three votes and one abstention. The bill still has to be approved by the Chamber of Deputies to become law.
