Less than a year ago, in May 2011, when he was asked on TV if he would accept the job of prime minister, the head of Romania’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE), Mihai Razvan-Ungureanu, gave a vague answer: “I can say that, wherever I am needed for the good of the country, I will be there.” Would he run for president? “I have no such temptations, I refuse such temptations.” Was it modesty? Or an accurate evaluation of chances? The latter is more likely.
