Valeriu Tabara: Romania Faces Purchasing Power Problems, Not Food Crisis

05.12.2011 By Ioana Tudor

Romania is not faced with a food crisis but with problems regarding purchasing power, Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabara said Thursday.

"We are not in the same situation as before 1989, on the contrary, we register a surplus," said the minister.

Tabara highlighted the state cannot intervene on the market to regulate food prices.

Food prices in Romania rose by 1.17% in March from the earlier month and by 4.12% compared to December 2010.
