BNR: Bank Payment Refusals Hit 32-Month Low In April

Romanian lenders refused to pay promissory notes, checks and notes of exchange amounting to 470 million lei (EUR114.8 million) in April, the lowest level since September 2008, central bank data showed Friday.

In March, the banks refused payments amounting to RON614.5 million.

The lenders refused total payments worth RON2.2 billion in the first four months, over 25% lower from the year-earlier period.

In 2010, Romanian bank payment refusals reached RON9.57 billion, up 1.6% on the year. (EUR1=RON4.1091)
