Number Of Insolvencies Down 8% To 7,192 In Jan-Apr

A total number of 7,192 companies started insolvency procedures in Romania between January and April, 8% fewer than 7,820 in the same interval of 2010, according to data published Thursday by the trade registry.

In the analyzed period, 8,627 companies suspended activity, down 68% from 26,843 in January-April 2010.

In April there were 2,110 insolvency rulings, slightly fewer than 2,198 in March.

Most insolvencies were seen in retail, followed by industry and construction.

There were 42,431 new companies created in the first four months of the year, compared to 37,947 in the same interval of 2010.

Romania had more than 895,000 registered companies at the end of April.
