Liviu Dragnea To Remain PSD President

The president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Liviu Dragnea, announced, after the results obtained by PSD at the mayoral elections, that he would remain the president of the party.

"Yes, I have reflected, I will remain the president of PSD. After this day when, in my opinion, and not only in my opinion, Romanians seem to have supported our program, the goals undertaken at the congress in October, it looks like our politics style, of avoiding disputes (…) and having a positive and constructive attitude, mattered.

(..) I don’t have all the data but it seems like we are the only party which understood the direction of the society, the speed of change of this society. We are on the right way. It’s not the end, it’s a first stage we will have a second stage after the parliamentary elections when we will have a higher percentage of new candidates and the last stage will be in 2017 when we will prepare the new leadership of the party after, hopefully, PSD would form the government," said Liviu Dragnea. Liviu Dragnea Excludes Idea Of No-Confidence Motion For Ciolos Government Until Parliamentary Elections

PSD president Liviu Dragnea on Sunday stated that the party will not submit a no-confidence motion for Ciolos government until the parliamentary elections despite the speculations according to which PSD and ALDE would file such a motion after the mayoral elections.

Speaking with journalists after social democrat candidate Gabriela Firea won Bucharest’s mayoral election, Dragnea said that such an action would trigger the refusal of President Klaus Iohannis to appoint a Prime Minister from PSD.

“Although they were colleagues (e.n. from PSD) with warrior attitude at certain points, I am interested more in the stability of the country. We don’t want to take over the governing as we can’t; a no-confidence motion would bring us in front of President Iohannis, who will certainly make a proposal that we won’t accept. This could lead to months of instability, with unwanted economic consequences,” Dragnea said.

On the other hand, former PM and PSD president Victor Ponta stated he would support such an action, suggesting that the party is still considering this step. (Adevarul)

State-Owned Hydropower Producer Hidroelectrica Sues Transelectrica And CEZ

Romanian state-owned hydropower producer Hidroelectrica will sue power grid operator Transelectrica and energy supplier CEZ, for trying to transfer part of the responsibility for a power failure in Valcea and Arges counties to the hydropower producer.

Last Wednesday, consumers in the northern areas of Valcea and Arges counties, as well as big industrial consumers in Ramnicu Valcea, Curtea de Arges and Campulung Muscel cities were left without electricity.

“The attempt to transfer part of the responsibility for the incident in the network to Hidroelectrica is tendentious and prejudicial, so that we will sue the two transport and distribution operators for the material and moral damages caused to the company,“ Hidroelectrica said in a statement.
