Opposition To Submit No-Confidence Motion by Year-End

Romania's opposition liberal party is negotiation with MPs of the ruling social democrats to secure backing for a no-confidence motion to be submitted by the end of the year.

Liberal Party leader Ludovic Orban said the opposition needs the votes of 67 lawmakers currently backing the ruling coalition for the motion to pass.

 

Iohannis: Romania Is Strongly Attached to European Principles and Values

Romanian president Klaus Iohannis said Romania is strongly attached to European principles and values and Romanians cannot see their future outside the European Union.

"The EU is at a crossroads. The European agenda is marked by multiple challenges and uncertainties, some rooted in the past, others a result of present evolution. The solution can only come from consensus,” said Iohannis.

 

Warning for Fog, Icy Roads in 12 Romanian Counties

Meteorologists issued a yellow code warning for inclement weather affecting 12 counties in the eastern half of the country.

The warning is for dense fog cutting visibility to under 200 meters and even 50 meters in some areas.

 

Domestic Violence Cases on the Rise

The number of domestic violence cases grew in 2018 compared with last year, police report statistics showed.

Ten percent of cases were reported in capital Bucharest.

In the first ten months of 2018, 32,696 domestic violence incidents were reported. Police statistics showed such incidents grew 3% compared with the same period last year.
