Millennium Bank Romania, a unit of Portugal’s largest listed bank Millennium bcp, Thursday reported a loss of EUR6.4 million in the first quarter, narrower from EUR7.4 million in the year-earlier period.

In its quarterly financial report, Millennium Bank said banking income in Romania rose 23.2% on year to EUR6.4 million in the first quarter, while operating costs were up 5.4% to EUR10.9 million.

Customer loans increased 20.5% to EUR343 million at the end of March, from EUR285 million in the year-earlier month.

Total deposits rose 12.5% on the year to EUR292 million, the Portuguese lender said.

Millennium Romania runs 74 branches and employs 699 staff.
