The weight of shares in the total assets of Romania's private pension funds could increase to at least 20% by December 2011, from 14.5% in April, because of lowered state bond yields, said Cristian Rosu, head of private pension regulator CSSPP.

The mandatory private pension funds reported net assets of 5.06 billion lei (EUR1.22 billion) at the end of April, up 3.6% on the month, according to CSSPP data. About 66.32% of the assets were invested in state treasuries, while 14.5% were placed in shares.

Two years ago, shares had a weight of 2.53%, having risen from 1.85% in March 2009.

The voluntary pension funds' net assets totaled RON372.3 million in April, up 2.5% on the month. About 65.36% of the assets were invested in state treasuries and 16.56% in shares.
