Bucharest Stocks End Slightly Down After Lackluster Trading

04.22.2013 By Bogdan Neagu

The Bucharest stock exchange closed slightly down Monday, after a dull session in which the trading values were high only because the results of Transgaz’s (TGN.RO) secondary public offer were registered in the bourse’s system.

Romania sold 15% of Transgaz shares for 315 million lei (EUR72 million) in a public offering ended last week. Thus, despite the only RON24.2 million share trades registered Monday, the bourse’s turnover reached the highest level in more than two years.

The Bucharest market’s BET index closed 0.08% lower from Friday closing level, while composite index BET-C was down 0.24%.

BET-FI, which tracks Fondul Proprietatea (FP.RO) and the regional investment funds (SIFs), fell 0.27% as all five SIFs ended in red, while Proprietatea closed flat on the day.

Among the SIFs, SIF Banat-Crisana (SIF1.RO) posted the largest decline, of 1.4%, while SIF Muntenia (SIF4.RO) dropped 0.6%.

Bucharest benchmark index BET-BK inched down 0.08%, while BET-XT lost 0.13%.

Energy stocks tracker BET-NG closed down 0.67%, with Transgaz losing almost 1% and Rompetrol Rafinare (RRC.RO) falling 1.5%.

Among the most liquid stocks, Banca Transilvania (TLV.RO) rose 0.4%, but BRD-Groupe Societe Generale (BRD.RO) fell 0.5%. (EUR1=RON4.3552)
