Leu Reaches New 5-Month High Vs Euro In Early Trade

The Romanian leu traded in little volumes Friday morning, and gained some ground against the euro, reaching a fresh high for the last five months at 4.435 units.

The leu was traded Tuesday morning at 4.437 per euro, but the transferred volumes were quite high, and it afterwards lost all the early gains. Wednesday, the leu traded around 4.45 units, and Thursday the market was closed for the International Workers’ Day.

On Friday morning, the local currency traded below 4.44 to the euro, reaching an early high at 4.435 to the euro, while the Hungarian forint and the Polish zloty were flat against the single coin.

The central bank set the leu’s exchange at 4.4503 per euro Wednesday, from 4.4403 per euro the day before.

On the money market Friday morning, overnight rates were slightly down to 2.8%-3.3% a year.
