Leu Stays In Narrow Range, Ends At 4.45 Vs Euro

The Romanian leu closed at 4.45 against the euro Friday, slightly stronger than in the previous day, after a mostly silent session.

The leu closed at 4.4495/4.45 to the euro, from 4.4525/4.4535 to the euro at Thursday close. It had opened higher, at 4.4485/4.45 units, but later lost some of its gains on increased euro purchase orders, and touched an early low at 4.453 units.

It later traded in a narrow range and close just around the 4.45 mark.

The Romanian central bank set the leu’s exchange rate at 4.4514 per euro Friday, almost unchanged from 4.4511 per euro the day before.

On the money market, overnight rates were down to 1.6%-2.1% a year, from 1.8%-2.3% a year on Thursday.
